Expected DA from Jan 2018: Next Dearness Allowance is Only Two Percent

It looks as if there is no change in the fact that the additional Dearness Allowance, to be issued from January 2018 onwards, is not likely to be more than two percent.

The Dearness Allowance given to Central Government employees, defence personnel and pensioners is revised twice a year. The percentage change in the Dearness Allowance issued in January and July each year is calculated based on the fluctuations in the prices during the preceding six months. Accordingly, the revised Dearness Allowance of five percent, issued in July 2017, will continue until December 2017. The Centre will soon announce the new Dearness Allowance rates to be issued from January 2018 onwards.

With six months’ AICPIN data being required for the calculations, information is currently available for only four months. Concrete guesses can be made only after the data for November and December are released. Even if the AICPIN index rises or falls by five points over these two months, there is not going to be any change in the two percent prediction.

All India Consumer Price Index (AICPIN) : In case of AICPIN increases by 3 Points or decreased 3 points, there is no change in the DA % from Jan 2018…
