Railway Employees Demand OROP

“The new pension scheme for the railway employees must be revoked and an OROP-like policy must be granted to us too”

Now that the Government has agreed to issue One Rank One Pension to the defence employees, workers of the Railways too have written a letter to the Prime Minister requesting that he considers giving them a similar retirement benefit too.

A letter in this regard was written to the Prime Minister by the national union of the Railway employees. Talking to the reporters in Patna, the General Secretary of the union, M. Raghavaiyya, said,

“On an average, about 800 railway employees die each year, at work. Nearly 3000 employees suffer serious injuries. Most of the Railway employees are those with no secure financial backgrounds. They are also posted at some of the most backward areas, and terror-plagued regions of the country. Therefore, the new pension scheme for the railway employees must be revoked and an OROP-like policy must be granted to us too.”
