CBSE Students Felicitated on their Writings On Pingali Venkayya

To commemorate the 68th Independence Day CBSE had announced a Writing Series on Shri Pingali Venkayya on 3rd August, 2014. It was open to students right from Classes I-XII. The objective was to orient the generation today with the selfless and valiant services of the women and men who have served the nation. The series was conducted from 5th to 11th August 2014. The entries invited were in English, Hindi or Telugu. A practice run was conducted on the 4th August, 2014 to acquaint participants with the process. The activity was conducted in both online and offline modes. Students could register online through the link available on www.cbseacademic.in. They could also register offline by giving a missed call on a number previously identified. The students could then key in their responses either through the link available or by writing in through a mail to cbsewriting@gmail.com. In case broadband connectivity was an issue they could also write in their own hand, take a picture and upload the image on the WhatsApp in the number provided.

Over all 15831 students participated in the series organized over a period of seven days. Every day up to first six days 68 students (to highlight the 68th Independence Day) were chosen based on essays submitted by them through online/WhatsApp/Email. These students have been awarded Rs. 5000/- each.

On the seventh day, fourteen students were chosen-six by popular choice and eight based on judges opinion and were awarded a sum of Rs. 20,000/- each. The fourteen students of last round were present at the felicitation function ‘ABHINANDAN’ today and were felicitated by the Union Human Resource Development Minister Smt. Smriti Irani. There were six other students who were connected online. These students were from classes II-VIII and were not able to make it to the finals, but their entries were appreciated by the judges.

A compilation ‘Musings on Shri Pingali Venkayya’ of the writings of the students who participated in writing series was also released by the HRD Minister.
